Prestofield House Hotel Elopement
Came from Ireland, met in Scotland, eloped in Edinburgh
Emer and Jonny chose a warm and mild September day for their very intimate and secretive Prestonfield House Hotel elopement. Emer is from Galoway and Jonny from Belfast, but didn’t meet until they both came to the capital of Scotland to study at the University of Edinburgh. With the love for the magical Scottish city, came the love for each other. They knew it would be difficult to bring their friends and family from Ireland to Scotland and decided against it. However, they still wanted to marry each other in the place of their first dates.
Prestonfield House Hotel Nuptials
Surrounded by stunning gardens, chased by peacocks, relaxed by the rustling autumn breeze, they vowed to always love and support each other. It was a beautiful ceremony. Emer had her bridal preparations in one of the loveliest rooms of Prestonfield House. It was a peaceful morning. Emer seemed incredibly calm. She did her hair and make up by herself. Her dried flowers complemented the stunning dress and hairstyle.
Intimate ceremony with a violinist
It was just them two, the registrar, their violinist and I. The talented musician and I were also Emer and Jonny’s wedding witnesses as the ceremony was kept a secret from all of their friends and family. We all had goosebumps when the violin started their favourite tune and Emer entered the room. It was just magic. Romantic, beautiful and filled with a great sense of humour and laughter. Short, relaxed and low key ceremony was what the couple was hoping for and it was exactly what they received.
Beautiful Prestonfield House gardens in the early autumn
After the ceremony Emer and Jonny had a few moments for a glass of champagne and a little toast. This was followed by a nice walk around this unique wedding venue and our relaxed photographs. Taking advantage of the opulent interiors was a must. Once we finished our garden based formals we went back to the Prestonfield House to carry on with our photographs. The day was magical. They couldn’t bring their friends and family from Ireland but they had them in their hearts. They knew the big party is still to happen in their home town. But first, they had to announce their marriage to their closest people.
Emer and Jonny went away for their honeymoon to relax, take everything in and get used to becoming husband and wife. I heard back from Emer and Jonny a few weeks later. Their families took the news very well and were excited for more!
To be continued in Ireland
I was over the moon when Emer and Jonny asked me to visit their home town in Ireland and photographs their Irish wedding. As a destination wedding photographer I have a good few weddings abroad each year but it was my first visit in the Emerald Isle! It was to happen six months after their elopement in Edinburgh and include their Scottish and Irish friends and family.
Let’s get famous!
In the meantime, their stunning elopement was discovered by the popular Scottish Wedding Directory – No 1 wedding magazine in Scotland. Not only was their story published but they secured the front cover! I couldn’t be more privileged and excited for them. The newlyweds were pretty happy too! The magazines then made the central pieces during their stunning reception in Oranmore! I received a copy of it on Christmas Eve. What a surprise and wonderful magic at the start of Christmas.
The Big White Iris Wedding
Destination wedding photography is always excited. Travelling to Shannon in a super cute and tiny Aer Lingus was a pleasure. Oranmore, Galway, the Cliffs of Moher, Doolan and one incredible wedding! The wedding venue couldn’t be more helpful with everything. Small but effective gardens just in front of Oranmore Hotel made the perfect background for our short formal photographs. But this is for another story. Safe to say, it was the best wedding reception in Oranmore!
The rest is a beautiful history…
After the wedding Emer and Jonny returned to Scotland and are one of the most glamorous couples of Edinburgh. Have a little look how it all started: beautiful, romantic, classy intimate…
