Postponed, not cancelled!
Andrew and Melanie were forced to postpone their wedding three times due to Covid19. The fourth time was definitely lucky! Originally, they were to get married at the stunning DoubleTree by Hilton SkyBar Edinburgh City Centre. Having to postpone so many times, they also had to re-think their plans. In times that were so uncertain, they decided to use their own home for the wedding ceremony and reception.
The beautiful October wedding
It was a drizzly October morning. The marquee was ready and beautifully decorated when I arrived. Last finishing touches to the wedding décor, last checks run by Andrew and we were ready to go! I went to meet the girls. Melanie was supported by her best friends and sister. There was a lot of excitement in that bridal room! The dress was proudly and patiently waiting to be put on. The shoes were at their sparkliest and the girls were at their happiest. It was a murky day, but quite rightly, not for a moment were they worried about the weather!
Handmade Scottish-German wedding
Everything from start to finish was organised and cleverly planned by young and resourceful couple. Large marquee was set up in front of their house. Here, they held their emotional wedding ceremony, wedding breakfast and evening reception. The bridal and groom’s preparations were happening in the upstairs bedrooms, the drinks reception and the group photographs were done in the foyer and on the beautiful staircase. For the formal photographs of the bride and groom we went to their private gardens. For the evening photographs with sparklers we used the driveway.
To add to the traditional Scottish atmosphere, they hired a piper. They also had a wonderful singer who entertained their guest during the ceremony. The wedding breakfast was organised by a local catering company and the guests enjoyed Scottish and German dishes, with the most popular German schnitzel and my favourite sauerkraut! The showstopper cake was made by Andrew’s mum and it was a masterpiece! Their phenomenal DJ entertained us all evening and there was a lot of great moves and kids gymnastics to be seen on the dance floor before and after the first dance!
One more cheer to the new Mr & Mrs
It takes a lot of time and commitment to organise a large wedding like this, to think of the main things and the details. A bespoke and handmade wedding Scottish-German wedding directed by the couple. Melanie and Andrew were hoping for a more ‘normal’ wedding with friends and families they hadn’t seen for a long time. They coordinated it well and had a fantastic day, definitely a day to remember!
